2048

About

2048 was created by Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli over a single weekend in March 2014 and went viral almost immediately, racking up millions of plays within days. The game is played on a 4×4 grid — slide the tiles, merge matching numbers, and chase the elusive 2048 tile. Simple to learn but increasingly hard to master.

How to Play

Use the arrow keys (PC) or swipe (mobile/tablet) to slide all tiles on the board in one direction. When two tiles with the same number collide they merge into one with their combined value — 2+2=4, 4+4=8, and so on. A new tile (2 or 4) appears after every move. The game ends when no more moves are possible. Best played in portrait mode on mobile.

Tips

  • Pick one corner for your highest tile and never move it, build your number sequence outward from there.
  • Avoid moving tiles upward. Stick to two main directions (e.g. left and down) to keep control of the board.
  • Build a snake pattern, highest tile in the corner, descending in a zigzag across the board.
  • Don't rush. Think two or three moves ahead before swiping, especially once the board starts filling up.
